bass museum of art

For all the focus on its endless sunshine, beautiful beaches and dazzling nightlife options, Miami Beach holds its own as an art destination. Just minutes away from Wynwood — South Florida’s most essential artistic neighborhood — and a short drive across the bay from the expansive Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, the city stands as a creative hub of its own right, and the Bass Museum of Art provides the city’s artistic pulse.

The Bass Museum in Miami Beach is noted for its diverse selection of contemporary exhibitions and unique series’ of events, including lectures, concerts, and family-friendly programs.

The spring lineup is headlined by One Way: Peter Marino, an exploration of the architect’s focus on fine art, fashion and design. The exhibition, curated by Jerome Sans spans various media, including a site-specific installation, contemporary art from Marino’s personal collection, and a recreation of the classic opera Orfeo de Euridice. It’s this variety of disparate styles and forms that makes the Bass a museum-lover’s paradise.

The permanent collection at the Bass covers more than half of the past millennium and spans four continents. The museum’s prestigious holdings include paintings by Rubens, Botticelli and Bol, alongside statues, tapestries and textiles.

The Bass Museum takes art to another level by bringing art to the parks and streets of Miami Beach. Already a beautiful place to spend time outdoors, South Florida is graced with the work of acclaimed artists, thanks to the Bass’ tc: temporary contemporary program. The exterior of the museum — along with Collins Park — is infused with unexpected forms of art, including sculpture, murals, sound installations, video pieces and other dynamic pieces. Among the 20 works currently on display as part of tc: temporary contemporary as of early 2015 are pieces by Falsnaes, Olaf Metzel, Sam Moyer, and more.
